Harvestr App
PROJECT OVERVIEW
As the local food movement grows in popularity, consumers have an increasing desire to purchase foods local to their area. Targeting the conscious consumer, this app provides information about what’s in-season, recipes, and ways to purchase produce so that users can stay informed while supporting their local farmers.

INTRODUCTION
My interest in the local food movement originated from my desire to be more contentious of my environmental impact. One clear avenue is through adjusting my relationship with food and understanding where my food was coming from. As our agricultural industry continues to mirror the meat industry, our food system has normalized the idea of producing as much as possible for as little as possible.
So, what resources can we provide to help consumers be more self-aware of what they choose to consume in order to combat the current industry standard?
RESEARCH
I conducted primary research to delve into the thought process behind purchasing through the lease of the target demographic – the “socially conscious” urban adult. Here, I discovered a few key takeaways:
People would attend local farmers markets and visit nearby co-ops when they had time, but they didn’t always pay attention to what was in-season.
In grocery stores, people found it hard to delineate “locally sourced” from conventional.
People stuck within the realm of what they were comfortable with and rarely branched out to try new in-season produce.
IDEATION
With the information gathered from the research phase, I came up with a few key target areas that I wanted the app to solve:
List in-season produce based on current season and geographical location.
Provide wide range of information on produce to promote trying something new.
Make offerings accessible by sending users to the closest co-op stores for pick-up.

VISUAL IDENTITY
Harvestr’s ROYGBIV color scheme is inspired by the idea of “eating the rainbow,” a saying paired with the notion of having a balanced diet. These colors are used as markers within the app to identify various produce categories and are used to supplement the green and pink primary brand colors.
